The mission of Sagehouse is to provide the community of working professionals and executives to recharge through the holistic practices of yoga, pilates and meditation.  What threads the three practices together is their attention to proper breathing.  Research connects stress and emotional disturbances directly to improper and shallow breathing.  The cliché, “take a deep breath” really is based in truth.  Shallow breathing creates tightness in the diaphragm and the ribs, which then affect the major organs.  Deep ribcage or abdominal breathing acts like a sponge and wrings the organs free of toxins.  At the same time, deep breathing oxygenates the blood, stabilizes blood pressure and reduces the stress hormone levels, adrenaline and cortisol.

Mindless exercise can increase stress – like running on a treadmill, watching TV, completely ignoring posture while breathing shallowly.  Without mindful regulation of the breath, stress responses stay at high alert and create even more stress that is detrimental to your health.

Dr. Michael Craig Miller, a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School tells us that exercise does not only protect “against heart disease and diabetes, improving sleep, and lowering blood pressure… [but] exercise supports nerve cell growth in the hippocampus, improving nerve cell connections, which helps relieve depression.” (Dr. Michael Craig, Harvard Health Publishing).

Stress and fatigue occurs when we are physically, mentally and emotionally drained from too much work, instead of enjoying the moment.  All of this manifests into physical pain, poor posture, low energy and eventually disease.  Let us help you find the strength, flexibility and energy that will improve your work relationships and personal life.

At Sagehouse, we offer small group and personal one to one private classes customized to serve your needs in becoming the most energized, most focused and stress free version of you.
